I have Windows 10 as the OS on my desktop computer. I purchase Malwarebytes Premium 3.0 AND Emsisoft Anti-Malware to keep me as safe as possible.
MalwareBytes AM 3.1.2 won't enable real-time protection or run sca - posted in Can't Run Any Antivirus or Malware Removal Programs: Real-time protection wont enable, scan cancels straight away and then refuses to start. MalwareBytes AM 3.1.2.1733 Premium Windows 10 64-bit Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard Seems to be time associated with Fall Creators Update.
I have been paying for and using both for a couple of years simultaneously and without any problems, and i intend to continue doing so.a couple days ago, i signed on to see my Malwarebytes real-time protection had been disabled. I tried to do a 'fix', following instructions on their blog, but nothing worked. So i sent in a request for assistance and have yet to hear back.then yesterday on the Bleeping Computer news page, i read an article that there is a new Windows 10 'controlled folder access' anti-ransomware feature that was uploaded to my computer with the Fall Creator's Update a couple days ago. Hmmm, coincidence? I think not.so here's my thinking. The new Microsoft controlled folder access is disabling the real-time protection from Malwarebytes. Maybe it's a turf-war for my business-i don't know.
But i have been happy with malwarebytes and Emsisoft, and want to continue being a satisfied paying customer.am i off-base here? Do i need to somehow disable the new Microsoft feature to re-enable my Malwarebytes protection? And in doing so, am i going to muck up something else?i am a rather unsophisticated computer user, and i would appreciate any thoughts or directions from this community.thanks!. I have read complaints from Windows Defender users who reported they encountered problems with Defender when also using Malwarebytes. The easiest way to confirm is to disable Windows Defender and reboot your system.Microsoft has been introducing a lot of new features with their updates to Windows 10 Defender including which allows users to also use a third party anti-virus program as their primary protection. However, since you are also using Emsisoft, I see no need to keep Defender enabled and disabling it may correct your issue with Malwarebytes. Thanks for the quick reply, quietman7!i looked at the article you noted, about turning off Windows Defender.
It seems that if i want to do so permanently, i need to make some serious changes to my computer's registry, rather than simply switch off a toggle on the Defender's page. I believe i can follow those instructions, with a bit of trepidation. But before i do that, i just want to ask if there is any benefit to keeping it enabled-any at all. It's been running in the background with both malwarebytes and Emsisoft all this time.
But if it is purely redundant, in your opinion, which i respect a LOT, i will go ahead and disable it permanently.thanks again for all your guidance!. Hi Umbra!i have had Emsisoft running for over a year, and Defender has constantly been enabled, so i don't understand why my computer is not running the way you would think it normally should.and since Defender is currently enabled and my Malwarebytes real-time protection is disabled (against my will), are you saying that the new Controlled Folders is NOT running on my computer? And therefore i need to look elsewhere for the cause?again, i am pretty unsophisticated about all this stuff, and i really appreciate direction and info from y'all who know it better than i!thanks!. Normally Emsisoft AM should have automatically disabled Windows Defender, and just let the Limited Periodic Scanning option available (it is off by default)About the new Controlled Folders it is only available if Windows Defender is disabled.I don't think this is correct as I've had both enabled for a few days now. I just disabled the Controlled Folders protection today as it is causing a problem with Libre Office, won't let me save any documents.Sorry, Typo, i meant enabled. If disabled, you won't have it. I had Emsisoft installed and looked for the feature for a long time until i realized it needs WD to be enabled.Edited by Umbra, 24 October 2017 - 07:59 PM.

Thanks, Umbra and midimusicman79!from your posts, i am understanding that Windows Defender cannot be enabled on my computer, since my Emsisoft anti-malware is enabled and working flawlessly. In the actual Emsisoft AM stable version you can't, however in the beta one (accessible via ticking the beta update feed in settings), you have an option that allow to use them both at same time, hence allowing you to use the Controlled Folder option of Win10 while still using EAMEdited by Umbra, 26 October 2017 - 07:37 PM. Hi again, bob n steve!my Malwarebytes real-time protection had been disabled. I tried to do a 'fix', following instructions on their blog, but nothing worked.According to this Malwarebytes article,;There was an issue in an older version of Malwarebytes 3 where one of the protection modules do not stay on or was stuck in the 'Starting' status. The Web Protection was the module that was having an error. We recommend upgrading to the latest version to resolves your issue.

You can refer to for information on how to upgrade. Below we will go into a quick fix that you can try in 3.0.6 if you don't want to upgrade.May I ask: Was this the 'fix' that you tried to do?And, may I ask: Do this Malwarebytes version information (accessible via Settings About) match yours?Malwarebytes version: 3.2.2.2029, Component package version: 1.0.212, Update package version: 1.0.3110Regards,midimusicman79Edited by midimusicman79, 27 October 2017 - 11:18 AM.

In the past, when i had to uninstall and re-install Malwarebytes, there was usually some problem that would come up in the uninstalling, which left some files of the old version still on my computer. It took a lot of work to wipe those out before i could install a newer version.but with your two directions about right-clicking Emsisoft and Malwarebytes and doing those items before uninstalling, it went smoothly-without a hitch!and i am fully protected again! Thank you so very much!!!.
